Stop Dreading Deadlines

As a time management coach, I work with many people who dread deadlines. Some meet theirs, but only by becoming frazzled and working late, which compromises their peace of mind and work-life balance. Others miss deadlines entirely. This makes them feel guilty for the impact not only on themselves but also on their team and projects. Deadlines can be a struggle — but they don’t have to be.

They can be energizing and help you sharpen your focus, set priorities, collaborate and get work done, while keeping projects on schedule. Think of deadlines this way: They’re a prioritization tool that tells you a project is important to focus on because its deadline is earlier. Deadlines can also make it easier to assess your workload. And when you know you can meet a deadline, you get the thrill of completing something on time...
