A 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' co-creator has a long-lost story to tell, and it gets pretty dark

Back in 1987, Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird were just two self-publishing comic-book-makers in Dover, N.H., writing stories for the characters they created three years earlier: the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. They decided to map out a dystopian world years beyond the adventures of their soon-to-be pop-culture icons.

The idea was called "The Last Ronin," and it showed a less-than-promising future: Only one living turtle remains, and he has to fight against the forces that took his three brothers away from him...
